News  -Best Made Shoes has been chosen to be one of the first 150 speciality stores in the country to have the NEW Balance ProCare Collection (Sept/2000) - New Balance -Shopping for Walking Footwear? 1) Shop when you have plenty of time to try out the shoes and ask questions about them. 2) Take an old pair of walking shoes. The wear pattern will give your fitter clues about your gait. 3) Go to a shoe store that specializes in walking or athletic shoes, a store that has a certified pedorthist is the best. 4) A Certified Pedorthist is trained in fitting shoes for problem feet and they are the most skilled in finding shoes for your specific foot type. 5) Bring any orthotics you have to try in your new shoes. 6) Choose shoes with at least 1/2 inch of space between the longest toe and the end of the shoe. 7) Feel inside the shoe for lumps or rough spots that could injure your foot. 8) Have the fitter measure your foot size, even if you have had it measured recently. 9) Make sure the shoes are not too tight in the toes or too loose in the heels. -What can I do to keep my diabetic feet healthy? Check you feet regularly to catch problems early. Make it part of your routine: check after you bathe or shower each day and check before you put on your socks and shoes. Use a hand-held mirror to help you see the bottoms of your feet. Tell your doctor immediately about any injury you find or anything that doesn't look normal. You can help prevent injuries to you feet by wearing shoes that fit well and by not going barefoot. Always shake out your shoes before you put them on to make sure there's nothing inside that could injure your foot. In addition to keeping your blood glucose in the normal range, other ways to help keep your feet healthy are: 1) Have a foot exam every 3 months 2) Keep your feet clean 3) Use an emory board instead of toenail clippers 4) Have high blood pressure treated 5) Stop Smoking 6) Cut back on alchohol -Foot Care Specialists Want more information about Certified Pedorthists?
