CHARLIE ROSEN

CUSTOM SHOEMAKER

In 1939, Charlie Rosen of Brockton, MA opened Charlie’s Shoe Store. This store specialized in shoes for women in sizes and widths. Over the years, Charlie saw that some women couldn’t find shoes because of specific foot problems.

After receiving his certification from the Scholl Orthopedic Training School in Chicago, he started manufacturing custom molded shoes and orthotics in 1955. He opened Better Mold Shoes in Florida in the late 50's. Charlie was one of the original custom-molded shoe makers in the country.

GENE ROSEN, C.PED, L.PED

BOARD-CERTIFIED & LICENSED PEDORTHIST

Charlie taught his son Gene the craft of master shoemaking when he was 11. Over the years, Gene worked with athletes and doctors that depended on the Rosen’s expertise.

In 1977, Gene arrived in Pittsburgh to open the first full-service foot care center. The first day Gene ran an ad in the newspaper about foot pain, 60 customers called in need of his services.

MARC ROSEN, C.PED, L.PED

BOARD-CERTIFIED & LICENSED PEDORTHIST

Gene’s son Marc joined Best-Made Shoes in 1995. They become the first father and son board-certified pedorthists in the history of Pittsburgh. Marc received his pedorthic training from Northwestern Medical Center

in Chicago.

He later expanded their Birkenstock collections and designed their interactive website www.bestmadeshoes.com
